We would like to invite you to join us on Saturday, March 23 to recognize the accomplishments of our annual Arts & Essay Contest award winners. The ceremony will take place at the Student Activity Center Ballroom on the campus of Clayton State University. The reception will start at 2:00 PM followed by the awards ceremony at 3:00 PM.

Since its inception in 2006, the Arts & Essay Contest has included middle school and high school students across five Southeastern states (Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida and South Carolina) who submit an art or essay work based on an annual theme. For this year's contest, whose theme is "The Human Footprint on the Environment: Impacts & Solutions," we have received hundreds of entries in both categories. The winners within each category along with their sponsoring teacher will be granted a place in our intercultural trip to Turkey.

As a result of this contest, the participants will have a far greater understanding of global issues as well as understanding the importance of cross-cultural dialogue in achieving solutions to global challenges.

Your attendance will be of great support to the award winning students and will provide a great encouragement for them to pursue the ideals presented in the contest theme. Please register on our website or through eventbrite to join us on this wonderful occasion.

Parents, Students, Teachers and Educators from all over the Georgia are welcome to attend the program. Light Snacks and refreshments will be served.

Date : Saturday, March 23, 2013

The Annual Global Connections Art & Essay Contest: Creating a Legacy of Understanding.

Middle and high school students are our future and we love to see so many young minds eager to spend their time and energy to increase awareness for our global challenges. We are greatly motivated by witnessing the creative works of those students.

Global Connections Art & Essay Contest is affiliated with educational institutions including universities and the Georgia Department of Education to be able to create an opportunity to accelerate the progress towards cross-cultural reconciliation and cooperation by engaging our youth at an early age.

It will be these individuals who have a greater understanding of global issues and the importance of cross-cultural dialog and cooperation in achieving solutions to global challenges and issues.

The Global Connections Art & Essay Contest was first organized by Istanbul Center in 2006. Co-sponsored by both the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAoC), the Annual Global Connections Art & Essay Contest challenges middle and high school students in 5 states of the Southeast - Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida and South Carolina - to submit both art and essay compositions based on a yearly humanistic theme.

Past year's themes have included the following: "Who is My Neighbor?", "Empathy: Walking in Another's Shoes," and "1 Billion Hungry in the World: What's Your Role?" The theme for the 2012-13 contest is "The Human Footprint on the Environment: Impacts & Solutions.
