His Excellency Kursad Tuzmen officially opened the “Year of Turkey” at the event’s Opening Ceremony at Kennesaw State University at Noon on October 8, 2008.  The Minister and his delegation of consular officials and representatives from Istanbul Center, and KSU faculty, staff and students sat back to watch and enjoy the selection of performances slated for the Opening Ceremony.

Tarik Celik Enrolls Turkish Officials in the "Year of Turkey"

October 2008 – Ankara, Turkey – Among a variety of visits to government officials to promote the “Year of Turkey” abroad, Tarik Celik, Director of Istanbul Center, spurred several accomplishments for Istanbul Center and its projects for the coming year.

Tarik Celik, Executive Director of Istanbul Center, visited the Turkish Grand National Assembly in Ankara for approximately one week in October of this year to discuss 2009 programming under the “Year of Turkey,” including an exciting meeting with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, presenting him with information about the Year of Turkey program and inviting him to come to Atlanta. His High Excellency Erdogan was interested and promised to try and visit Atlanta in 2009. Throughout Mr. Celik’s week in Turkey, his schedule was filled by meetings, strategy sessions and other discussions on how to showcase more effectively the “Year of Turkey” and Atlanta.
